See them through thick and thin before you get serious
It’s commonly held that adversity develops character, but it also reveals character. It’s for this reason that I teach my clients to pace the start of a romantic relationship. I guide them to take time getting to know someone before investing their whole heart (mind, body, soul) in a person.
Many of us have had the experience of meeting someone, losing ourselves completely then getting a rude shock when a less than appealing side of them is revealed. Perhaps they have a small bingle in their car and lose their s**t. Or you have an uncharacteristic argument and they start calling you horrible names. Or their at-first flattering “concern” about your male friend at work becomes all out jealousy and the onset of coercive control.
Please take your time when getting to know someone before you cast forth into the future… and see them marrying you. Or leaving you.
If you are in a hurry to find a partner, all the more reason to slow down.
